NOTE: In addition to being a comedy drama, this series explores serious subjects such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia, using humor to break down rather than perpetuate Asian, gay, or other stereotypes.
Magical girl?
Yeah, it’s a guy thing.
Young Japanese-American martial artist Jamie has always wanted to be a superhero and save the world like in her favorite magical girl comics. Her apathetic emo brother Frank has no patience for her infantile fantasies. One day, a cute talking animal appears, to awaken a new magical girl to fight against the coming darkness, just like in Jamie’s comics. But it’s not Jamie she wants. It’s Frank.
Frank’s not exactly thrilled to be a magical “girl,” but, hey, if it upsets his sister…! Yes, the fate of the world is in the hands of a teenage misanthrope who is made to cross-dress in the name of truth and justice.
However, things get personal when Jamie, jonesing to get back at him for stealing her thunder, gets another shot at magical destiny as his archenemy, leader of the forces of evil.
He’ll be walking a mile in our shoes, late in 2015.
